Weyes Blood just put out a new video for ‘Used To Be’ which is off their latest album Front Row Seat To Earth. Front Row Seat To Earth is an incredible album and is featured in our HEAVY ROTATION section of the site. Natalie Mering, the mastermind behind Weyes Blood, is an incredible talent. Not only did she write and perform all songs on Front Row Seat To Earth, but she directed most of the videos, aside from this one, that have been released so far.
More about the new video…
Weyes Blood’s Natalie Mering has teamed up with past collaborator, director Laura-Lynn Petrick, for another stunning music video for her new single “Used To Be.”
The video, shot entirely on Super 8mm film, takes place in two locations in Southern California: the Salton Sea and the Cabazon Dinosaurs. Also used as the video location for “Generation Why,” the Salton Sea is a manmade disaster, turned mid-century resort, turned post apocalyptic wasteland that compliments the aesthetics of 8mm film and Mering’s electric blue suit. The latter part of the video finds Mering at the Cabazon Dinosaurs, a roadside attraction whose current owners preach creationism and believe that man walked the earth with said prehistoric creatures.
The video for “Used to Be” feels personal and honest, much like a home movie; a quality that runs throughout Weyes Blood’s acclaimed new album Front Row Seat To Earth now available on Mexican Summer.
